PLATIRUS: eco friendly ways for PGMs recovering in the EU

PLATIRS consortium presented the main project achievements at the E-Waste World Conference & Expo on 19 November 2020. More than 100 globally renowned experts gathered online to discuss innovative and technical e-waste solutions for recycling, as well as trends and markets.

PLATIRUS presented innovative low and environmentally friendly technologies for recovering Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) during the Electric Vehicles and Battery recycling session. Dr. Nader Akil from PNO Innovation Brussels expertly hosted the presentation that was followed by a Q&A session. The presentation is recorded and accessible for all:

The EC classified PGMs as critical raw materials since 2011. Although they are essential for the European economy they are at high supply risk. PGMs are mainly used in autocatalysts to cut dangerous NOx and SOx emissions. They can be also used in a wide range of industrial applications for which there are often no substitutes.
